I completed my PhD in Critical and Comparative Studies in Music at the University of Virginia in 2014. As a graduate student on a strict budget, I had to find practical and affordable ways for my research to come to me. Enter eBay. The online auction house offered a great way to find materials pertaining to my research on sentimental songs; I have been amassing my collection for about a decade now. The majority of these materials were mass produced, enjoyed for a short time, and are still widely available. The Sentimental Museum of Musical Ephemera is a space to write about and share my collection.
I am currently writing a book about the long history of sentimental pop songs.
